MahaMandi..you'll be Missed!!!!!!!!!

Well its been more than 2 month for all of us to be a part of this prestigious institute,NITIE & the thing which i have been waiting for eagerly was MAHAMANDI,2014 to an extent more than i am waiting for my summer placements. The reason for this would be the amount of hype which this event has received among all B-Schools in our country.I have been asked about this event from my mates in other top B-Schools and to my surprise one of my best buddy from SPJAIN Mumbai also participated in this event. We have been hearing of it from various alumni, strategyzing ourselves as per the guidance from Mandi Sir in our  OB HR classes regarding how to be good at selling and communicating skills and lastly we have been waiting for this day to arrive to execute all our plans and inculcating the practical skills through this MAHAMANDI.
It all started from the flash mob dance practices 4-5 days before this mega event. The huge amount of participation from not so expert dancers just to be a part of this event certainly generated a feeling that i am lucky to get a chance to volunteer for this event. We practised the steps for 4-5 days and finally it was a tremendous performance at R-City mall on 8th of Aug.Finally the much awaited day arrived and we all were geared up for it.

The day began with the inauguration ceremony witnessing the presence of Ms. Sonam Bajwa which saw participation from NITIE,TISS, SPJIMR, KJ Somaiya and other renowned colleges

The enthusiasm and zeal in the students was very well evident, the buses left the campus taking students to destinations of their choice. The arrangement was so made that all major regions of Mumbai were covered with minimum possible routes. But in-spite of all the operation efficiency and planning, the so-far incessant rain which showed no signs of relenting, yet again proved the genius of Murphy. However we took this as a challenge and moved on to pursuing our deeds.
Well at the time when i was moving ahead different thoughts were striking my mind whether i would be able to pursue this task which i have never done in my life, how would i sell these educational toys, would people spend their hard earned money in these articles and lastly would i be able to sell all the inventory worth nearly Rs 3500.All these thoughts were going in my mind before i sold our first product 'TANGRAM' to an uncle who bought it for his grandson worth Rs 50.

It was a great feeling for me and gave us a confidence and we reached Bandra(Ban Stand).Although we were not much successful initially and we faced nearly 4-5 rejection. But with each rejection we were learning in terms of good communication, overcoming our reluctance and targeting right customers as well.We started approaching FAMILIES (with or without kids) telling them the utility of the products we were selling. Initially people were reluctant and at times simply shooed us away. Then suddenly our team encountered a US based wealthy family with 4 kids which after knowing the utilities of products purchased 750 Rs product.

Every time we made a sale we gained confidence and reached even more enthusiastically to our next customer.. There were ups and downs as well but one thing was getiing clear to us that we were learning a lot from each passing event. We felt motivated by each success and getting better in terms of presenting our articles and convincing people confidently.Although our primary target were kids but we targeted people from different age group showing the versatility of product and selling it in various innovative ways.

The feeling of satisfaction and happiness in the face of kids who were desperate to buy our product was awesome. Some products were sold very rapidly and some we were not able to sell and for those we strategised to sell as a complementary product to the most selled product as an offer. Finally in a span of 4-5 hours we sold almost all of the product and our task was accomplished. The most satisfying feeling we got was that we all were doing it for a social cause and i think this was the main reason we all were successful in achieving our target. For the first time in my life i did something for society and it was really a very complete feeling to me which swept away the tiredness from me after such a long and exhausting day.

MANDI KI JAI HO !!!!
